Social Media Manager
At Supermajority
What is it?
I was the first full-time employee hired at Supermajority, a progressive women's 501(c)(3), (c)(4) multi-generational and multicultural voting organization founded by Cecile Richards (former president of Planned Parenthood), Alicia Garza (co-founder of Black Lives Matter) and Ai-jen Poo (Executive Director of National Domestic Workers Alliance).
What @caraberny accomplished
I was promoted twice during my time at Supermajority and ran Executive Director Cecile Richard’s Twitter account, which had a combined audience of 263K in 2019 and provided live social media storytelling coverage on a cross country bus tour, traveling from coast to coast coordinating and covering organizing events
Over the course of 3.5 years the organization grew to a community of over 4 million women strong with a combined social media audience of 233K+ during my time as the Social Media Manager. Executed, curated, community managed, quality assured and directed the organization’s daily social media content, including drafting most social media copy, charted long and short term social calendar (in conjunction with partner organization asks), owned rapid response messaging, tested new/emerging social media features, ran and applied learnings from KPI tests, and directed short and long term calendaring across verified Facebook (85K+ followers), Instagram (83K+) and a Twitter (65.5K), YouTube accounts for a combined audience of 233K+ during my time in the organization.
TL/DR
Key Performance Metrics across all channels managed from March 2020 – April 2021: 200 million impressions, 5 million engagements, 900K+ post click links.
Why it actually mattered
I led the organization’s digital programming on social media in support of a strategic shift to reach younger, more diverse audiences of women online during (and well after) the 2020 election, while consistently delivering politically sensitive, culturally relevant, authentic, engaging and meaningful content that spoke to the lives of women of color while establishing a new women’s brand in a fast-paced political environment. Let’s talk about how we did that.
@caraberny In Front of the Camera
I created and starred in Instagram Reels, Instagram Lives and Tiktoks to promote the organization’s initiatives and influence a younger generation to respond to calls to actions like becoming a member, joining a leadership training program, participating in a book club and more.
Supermajority Campaigns
#Supercharge2020 : “Supercharge: Women All In” was a virtual event with politicians, activists, celebrities, community organizers and more kicking off a large-scale voter mobilization campaign to inspire and activate one million women to volunteer and take actions in the weeks leading up to the election. I worked closely with the Supermajority team and contractors to develop the branding, social media messaging and strategy around #Supercharge2020 and executed a live tweet campaign that shared key moments of the livestream in real time to generate engagement.
